It is almost a year since I’ve graduated from college, almost a year where I’am still brawling myself to an out of a box kind of work. I’am still sticking to my self-compromise dissatachment to a normal employment. Thats why you will see me in the field online or offline working as a Marketer.
I’ve almost come with all kinds of dissapointment, hardship, insult and betrayal. All I have endured but not this one. I was Insulted, demoralized, almost emotionality destroyed it also left me financially broken. Thus, vulnerable to another death.
Done with failures, Procrastinations, Mediocrity and Frustrations. I will stop being a good, patient and forgiving. All is enough, I was Insulted and Demoralized too much. I need to fight back.
Larong Pinoy ten years ago are the main activities that initiate comradoreship, strategy, kill time and perspiration. Those are the days when Computer rent is high because they were monopolized by few owners who can afford that expensive bulky thing. Children back then are on the street spending time in different Larong Pinoy, good old game activities that enriches not just their mind but mostly their sensory motor skills and social adaptability skills.
Everyday playing Larong Pinoy is an invigorating euphoric experience. Things which are beyond the adult’s everyday surreal. The euphonies of laughter, giggles, excitement and weird catharsis usually filled the air. The street flooded by playing children enjoying themselves is an everyday captivating scene.
Usually Larong Pinoy are played depending on the given season, they are theoretically synchronized to the kids body rhythm making it as the best educational adjustment activity that opens up training opportunities to various future life stages and social roles. Popular Larong Pinoy are Categorized here as:
- family and Home economic simulation - bahay-bahayan, lutu-lutuan
- ritual and religious- rhyme song, bubuka ang bulak-lak, rap dance
- gymnastics- luksong tinik, luksong baka, follow the leader, and tom sawyer
- strategic - agawan base, pulis-pulisan, patintero, bente-uno and bang sak
- preparatory to gambling and Economics- text, jolen
- Role playing- agawang panyo, juego de prenda, piko
- Symbolic- langit lupa, manga-manga, open the basket, bubuka ang bulaklak, piko
- Mind maze- bugtong-bugtong, tongue twister
- Military Arts- sipa, tumang preso, aso’t pusa, trumpo, siako, taguan, karetehan
A big contrast to this day situation where computer gaming is the new name. The kids nowadays perspires less, grow horizontally, and learning no reality. Their lives now are dominated by fantasy stimulus fed by plethora of traitor vivid commercialized cyber graphics and information.
Indication of the wrong cyber commercialization of games is the growth of Pathetic overweight kids that grow in numbers in recent years. A bad sign of slow physical activity which includes the Sleeping habit shift, where the 1:00am to no sleep became norms.
A Blame to the derogatory game revolution where the once real life simulation was commercialized into a cyber graphic dominated setting. Examples of Cyber games that resemble the Larong Pinoy/bata that now slowly dominating child’s kill time are:
- bahay-bahayan that was played as SIMS,
- Agawang base that was now DOTA
- pulis-pulisan which is now Grand theft Auto
- espada and kalasag which are now PSP, joystick and gameboy
- the preparatory gambling that use the hardcore gambling settings targeting kids
- Bugtungan which is now rhyme forgotten showbiz blind item
- and finally the worst - the former discreet abstract sexual simulation that was now constructly prevalent to all the games in the cyber world.
I’m not against information commercialization or information dissemination. The irresponsible wrong use just to earn money is what I’m against. world is evolving very past due to the bullish growth of technology. I admit it these are things we can’t hinder. But if there are things we can do to hamper the stagnating rot of the next generation.. Why not do anything?
Hope Larong Pinoy will survive and not be just a nostalgic memory to remember. Because Larong Pinoy is an educational heritage activity that should be treasure.
Gentle bullet here I keep, Floating freely in my feet,
horse tail maneuvering beyond reach, basking freely in frigid deep,
mona lisa asking me where I’ve gone, sleeping here beyond the sun,
simultaneousness as we speak, gargling venoms of hans,
Is frabjulous day has come? no, goyle is handling his hand so numb,
that he contact the priest to preach, jestering notes of curious mumb,
Mona lisa give me grimmy girth, so I ask more additional gurp„
Feebly dowgy has begun? Yes she said in artful slurt of blurbs,
primeval vestige of the mind,
sleep now for things here are might,
here to see is to unsee
there to see is to be.
It was Holy week, particularly the black Thursday, I was 5 years old my grandmother who was a cult fanatic took me with my younger sister to the annual underground Sto. Nino Convention (I’ve just name it). It was a huge convention where multiple sects like cults meet up to challenge each other in a brawl of who is more superior (joke!). Seriously it a meeting up of Christ believing sects from different province of the Philippines for prayer vigil and group healing ritual. I forgot the place but it is a rural area somewhere north (maybe in Bulacan).
Each sects has a leader who was clad with adornments and colorful costume depicting Beings who are said to possess their bodies. Famous beings that was told to posses these leaders are querubin, Sto. Nino, Jose Rizal, inang Maria, and Diyos ama.
What I’ve particularly remembered during that time is after praying the 15 mysteries of the holy rosary, a woman from one of the sects who was wearing a white long dress was suddenly attacked by fits and convulsion. People near her maybe her followers just hold her back to support her, others just watch. Then suddenly We’ve heard a murmur until the sounds became clearer. A pitch controlled voice that somewhat imitates a child echoes the room. Other people just continue their work while others watch her. She was sweating very hard and her eyes is somewhat dilated. She is speaking words “eow pohhh, megbego na kayeeewwhh”.
While at the far corner of the room an aged man wearing a maroon dress suddenly became quiet, supporters flock near him waiting that there is something that might happen. Suddenly his eyes fits just like in a convulsing child. He murmurs beyond understandable words. People who are watching the lady who was possessed by sto. nino turned their attention to the man. A supporter said that he was possessed by Jose Rizal.
When the observers look back at the lady who was possessed by sto. nino. She seems in a more pacified stature. Supporters said that sto. nino leaves. One of the supporters beside the lady fetch a pail of water from the well beside her. She spill it at the lady’s head giving her a cold bath. Supporters and other people like me, my sister and my lola also took a cold bath from the spring water. They said that the water is blessed.
When we look back at the man who was possessed by Jose Rizal he is now drinking water, exhausted from spirit possession.
After the Possession session, a healing ritual was performed, healing leaders choose their site and begin healing by massaging oil, massaging spit and performing other healing rituals.
I was taken to one of the albularyo who massage my back very hard that I cried because of the pain. I saw his hand covered with awful coconut oil. It pressed very hard on my back and into my hand and It feels like hell. While my sister was held by my lola as another albularyo perform a healing ritual where spit was spread like a mayonaisse at her back. She too is crying maybe because of the pain.
After the massage from the albularyo, my lola can’t stop us from crying, she just then holds us until we fell asleep. When I woke up the following morning. We ate the prepared breakfast and leave home.
At our house my father and my lola have a heated argument after my father was not notified that we are taken into such place. As my father is not a believer of these rituals.
I’ve not heard again about the festival until my aunt who was also a festival participant move near us. My lola didn’t join the festival now as she changed her sect.
